I'm in Tag Sale heaven today!

As you know I love a good tag sale or thrifty find. Well today my husband stumbled upon a great tag sale and found some antique furniture. He brought it home and surprised me with this beautiful antique rocking chair with upholstered seat  and dresser.
I was thrilled and wanted to go and find more treasures and look what else I found...
This blue and white transferware bowl:
(I know my friend Nancy will be impressed) :)

and pretty cream/gold vase with a bird and roses on it:
I set them on the dresser in my breakfast nook area and they seem to fit nicely.

The rocking chair I put in the living room in an empty space between the sectional and the tv. The chair cushion goes well with my rug.
Now I am working on a crochet doily for the vase and bowl lol.

Thanks for joining me for a look at my finds

Early Fall 2010 Fashion Preview

click the title to go to page.

I love the colors they picked for this collection. The short grey cardi (second one top row) is very nice, great color and texture and the detail on the back is very sophisticated.  My favorite I think is the lilacs. Since I can't knit worth a snit I will look for some similar patterns in crochet.

What's your fav?

My first attempt at African Flowers (hex)

Lately I have been trying  new techniques and stitches. I also wanted to make some hexagons instead of squares.
So I joined a group on Flickr and found a nice tutorial. Here is my lowly attempt at making an  african flower.
It is made with LionBrand Suede in sage and fushia.
This could become a pillow cover very easily. It is a very soft yarn.
The pattern is a little tricky at first but after the first couple of rows you get the hang of it.  It could have been the yarn or just my tension but it was hard to see where to put my hook in some places.
Here is the link to the pattern. Click the title of post to continue...

Fashion Friday ~ Madeleines

Today's Fashion Friday! Madeleines

Wearable constructed fibre works by Angelika Werth: The Madeleines is a series of twelve sculptural, felted dresses made for the use of historical figures and their imaginary engagement in athletic activity.
These wool hand-felted creations are amazing!

I want to learn felting so bad and to be able to create something like this would be awesome! I think I might start small like a bag or purse first. lol

side note: I was led to this great artist via the blog/website http://www.deeplyfelt.com/, thanks so much for leading the way *smiles*

What's your inspiration?

I'm bringing back Fashion Fridays!

I really think blogging about my little creations and life gets so boring. I love to spice things up a bit for the weekend. I might find things on the web that have to do with beautiful handmade wearable items or a something out in the real world I just have to share. If you find something that is "fiber art" fashion forward or just faboulously knitted or crocheted in a way that is inspired then post a link here in the comments. :)
I'll try to keep it going every Friday.
Thanks,
Britt

I worked this up in a day for my son's birthday celebration.

I bought the yarn at the local A.C. Moore , "Hi Janice! ", along with plates, napkins, cups and a table cover all for a $1 each. The party theme was American Flag and red white & blue. This can easily be used for other things and occasions such as Memorial Day celebrations and of course July4th "Independence Day"!

The yarn was $1.99 I think lol and with two balls I made this placemat and the water bottle cozie you saw in the earlier post.

Sweet things at Mommy and Me

I stopped in over at Mommy&Me Children's Boutique in Kensington, CT today.
They have the cutest little flower girl dresses I have seen. I also saw some great jewelry and baby clothes. All sweet things that every child would adore.
Sally, the store owner, said they have a very popular following with the "American Girl" dolls. It's a great shop for finding that special gift for someone.

Everything is so well organized and reasonable prices too. She also has a another side full of children's furniture and antique collectibles which is called "Lazy Dasies" .
Stop in and say hello if you are in the area.
Just in time for Mother's Day!

A great idea for sprucing up your  garden by decorating old pots  is this pattern for a flower pot cover Dig-It Flower Pot Cover from Crochet! Magazine .  I have a couple of bare pots laying around that need some covers.  Could be a great addition to the plant hangers I made a few weeks ago.
